독일붓꽃 (Iris germanica hybrida Hort.)

유럽 원산의 많은 종이 교배되어 만들어졌으며 많은 품종이 있다. 높이 30∼60cm로 가지가 갈라진다. 잎은 칼 모양이다.꽃은 4∼5월에 크기 6∼8cm 정도로 핀다. 5개의 꽃이 피고 향기가 있는 것도 있으며, 외화피는 자주색으로 구부러져 밑으로 쳐져 있다. 밑부분부터 반 정도에 걸쳐서 노란색 수염이 있다. 안쪽 꽃잎은 달걀을 거꾸로 세운 듯히 돔(dome) 모양으로 곧게 서고 짙은 등자색이다.

 

배수가 좋고 알칼리성의 건조한 토양을 좋아하며 화단용으로 적합하다.유럽·아메리카에서는 무지개꽃이라고 할 정도로 꽃색의 종류가 다양하며 흰색·노란색·분홍색·붉은색·하늘색·자주색 등 여러 가지 혼합색이 있다. 굵은 땅속줄기가 있어 구근식물(球根植物)로도 취급된다. 출처: 무지개세상
